Daffodil Drive Weekend in Junction City! (2011)
Posted by Guaranty on January 25, 2012 - 8:10am
It's a beautiful afternoon in Junction City! Members of the Junction City - Harrisburg Chamber of Commerce got a special preview this morning of the 39th annual Daffodil Drive, held at the Long Tom Grange March 12th and 13th.
Once again, we can strongly recommend this event to our friends and neighbors...this year's is shaping up to be the best Daffodil Drive yet!
Whether it is your first trip down Ferguson Road or your 30th, taking part in the Daffodil Drive is a great tradition. Not only is the bucolic and flower-laden rural drive a special treat, but at the end of the journey, you'll find the Long Tom Grange. As the tradition goes, you can park your car for a bit and visit the grange to enjoy a delicious cinnamon roll and a cup of coffee. Also, many lovely hand-made quilts are on display, and both the Long Tom Grange and Soroptomists have raffle tickets available for their own special quilts. Of course, if seeing all those beautiful daffodils inspires you to take some home, many varieties, from Trumpet to Bridal Crown and Paperwhites, are available for purchase. Kids can even enjoy a petting zoo, and there is no admission fee. What better way to spend a peaceful weekend!
Guaranty is honored to bring an RV down to the Long Tom Grange every year, so that the industrious volunteers can have a nice place to sneak away for a break (and hopefully enjoy one of those legendary cinnamon rolls as well!). What began with Faye Moffett planting a few extra daffodil bulbs along the roadside in front of her house in the 1960s has evolved into a wonderful occasion, created exclusively by a strong force of generous Grange members and volunteers.
Daffodils are a hardy bulb, and an instantly recognizable harbinger of spring. Already on the Guaranty campus, there are many daffodils brightening up spots here and there- with today's sunshine, we're sure to see more!
The Grange is a great part of our rural tradition, and we're thankful to have the Long Tom Grange as part of our community.
We sure hope that you'll come out to the Daffodil Drive this weekend- and feel free to stop by Guaranty and say hello as you're on your way!
